ALERT: author venting incoming
You all- it’s been a frustrating month. For reasons out of my control, my books are not being released when they should. Here’s the situation.
In October, I released a paperback version of Unfamiliar Territory through IngramSpark, the company I use to widely distribute my books. That in of itself was no problem, and in fact I have paperback copies to personally sell, and they can be found on Barnes & Noble as well. The problem arose with Amazon. Because of the ongoing issues with ISBNs and Amazon, the paperback version was set by Amazon to preorder status, with no cover shown. I waited half a month for this to change in some way, shape, or form, but nothing did. So, I decided to publish directly with KDP for my paperback.
People do it all the time, publishing to both IngramSpark and KDP.
I uploaded all of the files, jumped through all of the hoops, and voila! My KDP paperback book was now in review. Review time can take up to 72 hours, they said.
This was October 24th that I did this.
After a week went by, I reached out via email: “Why is my book still in review?”
The annoying answer I got back was, “Reviews can take as long as 72 hours. Be patient!”
I let another week go by. “It’s been MUCH longer than 72 hours now. What’s the holdup?”
KDP wrote back, “We need five more days.”
I let ANOTHER five days go by before calling. The nice lady on the phone couldn’t help me, but let me know that she’d let the member on the case know I called.
And still my paperback sits in review.
As if this weren’t bad enough, Book Two, Relative Truths, releases this Thursday, November 17th. But, sadly, only for eBook. Here’s why.
I uploaded files to IngramSpark for my jacket hardcover edition on November 2nd. In the past, the review period has been less than 72 hours before I got an eproof to either reject or approve. This time? It’s still in processing. It’s been 13 days. SIGH …
I did email them yesterday, and I received an email back this morning saying they’ll look into it, but they are incredibly busy.
So, yeah. Frustration all around.
The good news is that the eBook will still be dropping at most major online store in two days. And I’m super excited about that!
But I apologize for the delays in the physical copy. I was hoping to have them available by Christmas, but I’m now doubting that timeline.
Anyway, thank you reading this diatribe. I hope you are excited for more Cressida!
